Prayagraj: After a gap of nearly five years, parking has resumed on Mahatma Gandhi Marg and SP Marg in Civil Lines. Motorists can use the designated parking spaces free of charge for the first month. The agency engaged to operate the parking spaces is currently installing signage, rate lists and entry-exit barriers. No parking fee will be charged until all basic facilities are ready. Cash collection at the parking sites will also remain banned during this period. Once facilities are in place, motorists will have to pay through machines. Barriers at entry and exit points are also expected to improve regulation of vehicles and prevent haphazard parking. The new system covers roadside parking on Sardar Patel Marg and the service lane along Mahatma Gandhi Marg. On SP Marg, the last lane on both sides of the road will be used for parking. An additional temporary parking facility is also planned on vacant land in front of Yatrik Hotel. The civic authorities also plan to relocate roadside vendors removed to make space for parking. Vendors from Mahatma Gandhi Marg and Sardar Patel Marg will be accommodated at the Stone Church protest site, the area opposite the bus stand near CMP College and a portion of the cleared land on Sardar Patel Marg.
