Mayor Ritu Tawde had called for action and fines against individuals and organisations whose photographs or promotional material appear on unauthorised banners, boards, posters, etc., and had also announced a special campaign against unauthorised banners, posters and boards across the city.
Of the material removed, as many as 1,442 are illegal banners, 673 are boards, 133 are posters, eight are regarding wall defacements, and 35 are flags. The action by the Licensing Department includes registration of four FIRs and 13 letters being sent to the police for action regarding the illegal publicity material, according to the civic body.
Satam said that unauthorised boards and banners come up despite clear directions issued by the High Court. The material removed includes political, commercial and religious categories.
BJP city president Ameet Satam had earlier urged Tawde to formulate a comprehensive policy to curb the proliferation of unauthorised banners and hoardings, which are defacing the city.
