E-tenders for the specialised sunglasses have been floated
The Kolkata police commissioner has invited e-tenders for procuring good-quality anti-UV, Category 3 impact-resistant hiking sunglasses for the force. Kolkata : Keeping violent street protests in mind where police personnel are routinely deployed to control unruly crowds and handle tense law-and-order situations, Kolkata Police is looking to bolster its eye protection with impact-resistant sunglasses. The proposed equipment is intended for field duties where officers face exposure to dust, flying debris and harsh sunlight, though protection against tear gas requires specialised chemical-resistant eyewear. The tender is open to authorised dealers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), registered small-scale industrial units and govt-owned or managed industrial undertakings and organisations.
“During protests and confrontations, officers may also face hazards from flying particles and accidental impacts,” a senior officer in Lalbazar said. The proposed equipment could prove useful for personnel deployed for traffic management, crowd control and law-and-order duties, where prolonged exposure to sunlight, dust and airborne debris can affect visibility and cause eye injuries. The procurement could benefit personnel deployed at traffic intersections, public gatherings and demonstrations, where officers often remain outdoors for extended periods and must maintain clear vision while responding to rapidly changing situations.
