Stating that he will join the protest in Delhi from Wednesday, Dipke said lakhs of young people would take to the streets and the agitation would continue until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigned. Even if demonstrations are banned there, thousands of Jantar Mantars will emerge not just in Delhi but across the country,” Dipke said. The activists should not have been subjected to such action for their protest,” he said. “If the police detained me on the way to the national capital, I would begin the protest from wherever I am stopped,” he said. CJP has demanded Kumar’s resignation and said its agitation would continue until he stepped down.

Dipke was speaking to the reporters at Santuk Pimpri village in Hingoli taluka after attending the raksha visarjan ceremony of his grandmother, Savitribai. “Jantar Mantar is the soul of any protest. Demonstrating at this place gives the protesters a different kind of energy. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have ushered in an era of dictatorship and prohibited protests at the site. The CJP chief accused Centre of attempting to suppress dissent, saying govt wanted the agitation to end and was unconcerned about the importance of designated protest sites. Dipke also addressed the detention of CJP activists Ashutosh Ranka and Saurabh Das following the unfurling of the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. “Party’s legal team would approach the court to challenge the action. The two activists had committed no offence. We will pursue legal remedies against the detentions. Dipke also warned that the agitation would not be confined to a particular location if the police stopped him from reaching Delhi. The latest warning signals the party’s intention to expand its campaign beyond Jantar Mantar if restrictions prevent protesters from assembling at the designated venue. Download the TOI App.
