Hassan: Excise department conducted surprise raids at several places in Arsikere Wednesday and booked cases, following a TOI report highlighting illegal liquor sales in the town during the early hours. A team led by excise inspector Niranjan Kumar raided outlets and seized dozens of liquor packets. Cases have been registered, and an investigation is under way. During the operation, officials found liquor being sold discreetly at a small shop opposite the bus depot on BH Road. The shop was allegedly selling liquor illegally, taking advantage of the steady movement of passengers and members of the public in the area. Officials also found evidence of liquor being sold at prices above the prescribed rates. Public concerns have also been raised over alleged early-morning liquor sales at some outlets near the bus stand. They called for regular inspections and strict action against all establishments violating the rules, including larger liquor outlets, rather than targeting only small shops. They urged the department to sustain its crackdown to curb illegal liquor sales and ensure compliance with licensing conditions and prescribed pricing regulations. Download the TOI App.
