CB-CID has filed a chargesheet against 11 people before a Nagercoil court in connection with Sabarivarman’s custodial death at Nagercoil district prison. On July, 22, DGP Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal transferred the investigation to CB-CID. When the victim, Sabarivarman, managed to free his hands, the accused became furious, tore the lungi, tied him up again and continued the assault, which resulted in his death, the investigation further revealed.

A prison warden first assaulted Sabarivarman after inmates complained that he was shouting inside the cell and insisting on meeting his wife and children, according to the CB-CID investigation. Investigators said the warden later instigated eight inmates returning from kitchen duty to attack him again. The accused include prison warden Jagan, chief warden Suresh, prison guard Sivakumar, and eight inmates.
