Chandrapur: The state govt has included Ballarpur, Brahmapuri and Jiwti in the drought-hit list, bringing all 15 talukas of Chandrapur district under drought Triggers 1 and 2. The three tehsils were earlier excluded despite a rainfall deficit and prolonged dry spells during the 2026 kharif season.
Initially, 12 talukas were covered under Trigger 1. Following intervention by local MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a reassessment, after which the three tehsils were brought under Trigger 2. the additional concession will cover pumps with higher capacities While bills for pumps of up to 7.5 horsepower (HP) have already been waived.
The govt has announced a package of concessions for drought-hit areas, including waivers of land revenue and school and college examination fees, restructuring of crop loans, and suspension of the recovery of agriculture-related loans. Relief on electricity bills for agricultural pumps has also been provided. Power connections to agricultural pumps in villages officially declared water-scarce will not be disconnected. To generate rural employment, the govt will relax norms under the Employment Guarantee Scheme and facilitate more work. Water tankers will be deployed wherever necessary, and authorities have been directed to ensure adequate drinking water for residents and livestock.

The administration has also been asked to ensure adequate foodgrain supplies for farmers, agricultural labourers and other vulnerable sections.
