The average wholesale price increased from Rs 3,751 per quintal on Monday to Rs 4,400 per quintal on Wednesday, bringing relief to onion growers who had been facing falling prices in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, the average wholesale onion price had touched Rs 4,450 per quintal on Oct 1. However, prices subsequently declined by around Rs 750 per quintal to nearly Rs 3,700 per quintal by Oct 9. On Wednesday, the minimum and maximum wholesale prices at Lasalgaon APMC were recorded at Rs 1,000 and Rs 4,600 per quintal, respectively, while the average price stood at Rs 4,400 per quintal. Around 3,000 quintals of onions were auctioned at Lasalgaon on Wednesday.
The market has since witnessed a recovery, with prices increasing steadily during the last few trading sessions.
