Residents during the health camp at Dattanagar on Wednesday
The camp was held at Tuljabhavani Temple in Dattanagar on Wednesday, where a total of 149 residents underwent medical examination. Out of the 90 patients diagnosed with skin ailments, 62 were found to have moderately severe symptoms, 26 had mild symptoms and two were identified with severe skin conditions. With the identification of these 90 additional patients, the total number of people found to be suffering from skin ailments has gone up to 407. This includes 109 cases detected during OPD services at NMC’s Urban Primary Health Centre in Dattanagar and another 208 patients identified during a recent health survey conducted by the civic body’s health department.
The camp was organized by NMC’s public health department as part of ongoing efforts to monitor the health impact of contaminated yellowish groundwater reported from several borewells in Dattanagar and adjoining areas. NMC intensified health surveillance and launched special screening and treatment drives in Dattanagar following continued complaints of illnesses potentially linked to contaminated water.
Civic officials said health monitoring activities would continue in the area, with additional camps and awareness drives planned to ensure timely treatment and assess the impact of the groundwater contamination on residents’ health. All patients were provided medicines and treatment free of cost. Medical teams screened residents and provided guidance on preventive healthcare measures. Doctors treated patients reporting skin disorders, itching, allergies, rashes and related complaints.
