COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) has expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu govt for swiftly implementing the decisions made at the 57th GST Council meeting, particularly the introduction of intelligence-based checks on the movement of goods.
The Tamil Nadu commercial taxes department issued a government order on Oct 14 deciding to dispense with the existing system of roving squads and to move towards a system of intelligence-based intercepts.
In a statement, Codissia said the intelligence-based system was a welcome move that would improve ease of doing business and reduce unnecessary difficulties for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Under the revised procedure, vehicles carrying goods can be intercepted only on the basis of specific intelligence and with prior authorisation from an officer not below the rank of joint commissioner. Reasons for interception must be recorded in writing.
