Kochi : Police on Thursday took Suhail Sajeev, 19, the key accused in the Nedumbassery car accident that killed three people, to the accident spot on the airport road as part of evidence collection.
All four were returned to judicial custody by 5pmon Thursday after the one-day police custody period ended, according to the police. Suhail remained inside the police vehicle throughout the evidence collection, apparently to avoid a possible public backlash. The prosecution had sought custodial interrogation to investigate the possibility of a conspiracy or prior enmity behind the incident. R Nishanthini, IGP, south zone, has been entrusted with hearing the complaints and concerns of the victims’ families.
He was later taken to Courtyard by Marriott in Nedumbassery, one of the three bars that he and the other accused reportedly visited before the accident.
Home minister Ramesh Chennithala had also announced that govt was prepared to appoint a special public prosecutor for the case. The state govt had on Wednesday handed over the investigation to Aluva DSP Baiju Paulose.
