Through their 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, the NFL power couple is supporting foster care awareness in Kansas City and Missouri. They donated $15,000 to the Foster15 campaign, launched in partnership with Cornerstones of Care, a 150-year-old nonprofit. Their partnership with Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ foundation was announced in April 2025. Approximately 18,000 children are in foster care across two states, Kansas and Missouri, according to the 15 and the Mahomies’ official announcement. The Foster15 initiative ran throughout May 2025 in recognition of National Foster Care Month. Apart from financial support through a $15,000 contribution, 15 and the Mahomies provided tickets and other items, such as a raffle featuring tickets and memorabilia, as part of fundraising efforts. For over 150 years, Cornerstones of Care has been creating a safe and healing environment for those impacted by trauma in Kansas, Missouri, and beyond. However, it was Willis’ niece, Mary Gillis Troost, who founded the Gillis Home for Orphans in 1870 with the support of William’s estate after he passed away.
Cornerstones of Care President and CEO Merideth Rose said during the Foster15 launch, “We talk about foster parenting as being ‘the challenge you won’t regret.’ Patrick Mahomes ’ and Brittany Mahomes ’ earnest commitment to supporting children and families extends beyond their respective career fields. Cornerstones of Care is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization that works with children and families who are affected by trauma. They provide services such as foster care, adoption, youth and family support, and education. Their Foster15 initiative addresses the need for more foster families. The joint foster parent recruitment initiative also helps prospective caregivers understand the whole process of fostering. Both states continue to face a significant shortage of foster families. The partnership between Patrick Mahomes’ foundation and Cornerstones of Care aims to do more than address the need for more foster families. It seeks to amplify awareness of foster parenting. Not just that, but also explain the extensive responsibilities involved in foster parenting. It also encourages individuals and families to test and try whether foster parenting is made for them. As per its website, Cornerstones of Care is a behavioral and mental health nonprofit dedicated to partnering with children and families to build safe and healthy communities. William Gillis was a prominent pioneer trader and considered one of the founding members of Kansas City. He was one of the many individuals whose contributions to the city inspired the development of Cornerstones of Care. Cornerstones of Care is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. But their lasting impact touches the lives of children and families in offices, classrooms, and homes across the region. Their trauma-informed work is focused on three key service areas: youth and family support, foster care and adoption, and education and training. Its foster care and adoption services focus on the identification and support of suitable families that can provide children with safe and nurturing environments to prosper. The nonprofit prioritizes safe reunification with birth families whenever possible. It also helps with the placement of children with relatives or other family caregivers whenever appropriate. They make sure siblings are kept together. Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ Foster15 initiative helps interested individuals in Kansas and Missouri get in touch with Cornerstones of Care representatives without the need to commit to becoming foster parents. Their timely and considerate conversations can help prospective caregivers understand the requirements it takes to look after a child and accordingly determine their next comfortable steps.
As per the nonprofit’s 2025 impact report, in May, they partnered with 15 and the Mahomies Foundation to launch the Foster15 campaign during National Foster Care Month, recruiting and supporting foster families.
