Telangana police had been looking for him for the past four years in connection with cases

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: A day after Basharath Ahmed and two others were arrested by EAGLE sleuths in Goa, police revealed that Ahmed, a native of Jammu and Kashmir who is involved in the jewellery business there, was operating an organised drug supply network from Goa.

Police seized 13 LSD blots, eight ecstasy pills and 100 grams of charas from the accused. The seized drugs were valued at approximately Rs 1.50 lakh. However, the officials decided against raiding the house directly due to security concerns.

Investigators said that Borkar was allegedly using an old Nokia keypad phone to avoid drawing attention, while the duo conducted transactions in cash instead of accepting payments through UPI. Telangana police had been looking for him for the past four years in connection with cases registered against Borkar, officials said. Acting on information that Ahmed was playing a key role in supplying drugs to people from Telangana while evading the police, officials dispatched a team to apprehend him. It took the team seven days to track him down. Police eventually arrested him after he stepped out of an area in North Goa considered his stronghold. Unaware that Ahmed’s associate, Priteesh Narayan Borkar, was accompanying him, the police apprehended both men and took them to a local police station in Goa. Ahmed is allegedly both a drug user and a supplier.

Before the arrests, decoy teams had been sent to their hideout to confirm Ahmed’s presence.
