Hyderabad : An 80-year-old man’s body remained at his home for three days after a bitter family dispute over property stalled his funeral, forcing police to intervene and ensure that his last rites were finally conducted on Wednesday night in Vemulawada of Rajanna Sircilla district.
He owned 1.5 acres of agricultural land and a house.
Police said Chandraiah had registered his house in the names of his daughters around three years ago. Following his death, a dispute erupted over the division of his property. Konkati Chandraiah, a resident of Konayipalli village, which is part of Vemulawada municipality, died of age-related ailments on Monday night, according to police. With no resolution in sight and the body still awaiting cremation, police stepped in on Wednesday and facilitated the funeral, ensuring that Chandraiah’s last rites were finally performed.
Nagaraju’s second wife and her two daughters reportedly sought a share in the assets, leading to a confrontation with other family members. The disagreement intensified to the point that Chandraiah’s last rites could not be performed, leaving his body at home for three days. Village elders attempted to broker a settlement and persuade the family to proceed with the funeral, but their efforts failed as both sides remained locked in the dispute.
