New Delhi: Delhi Police has stepped up security arrangements across the city, particularly in and around Connaught Place, ahead of a proposed ‘tiranga yatra’ called by CJP and backed by AAP at Central Park Friday.
Police sources said 6,000 to 7,000 personnel have been deployed in and around New Delhi area. “About 200 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are in the city and are being deployed in shifts — 30 to 40 companies at a time. CP and adjoining parts of central Delhi are likely to witness traffic diversion Friday due to the proposed gathering.
If the situation deteriorates, additional companies will be deployed,” the sources said. “Given the current security and law-and-order situation, it is hereby informed that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS are in force to maintain tranquillity in CP and its adjoining areas, protect lives, and safeguard public and private property,” DCP Neha Yadav, Delhi Police PRO, said. Police said they could facilitate a group of select individuals to carry the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location.
Multiple CCTV cameras have been installed inside Central Park and in Rajiv Chowk to monitor the situation. Police appealed to protesters and members of the public not to participate in assemblies that violate the prohibitory orders and urged people not to disrupt peace and affect business activities. Police are readying traffic-management arrangements, with barricading, regulation of pedestrian and vehicular movement and possible restrictions around CP under consideration. Commuters travelling through central Delhi should factor in possible delays and check for traffic advisories before starting their commute. The final restrictions and diversions will depend on police arrangements on the ground.
