Special camps on Oct 18 & 25 ahead of SIR deadline

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: The Delhi election office will organise camps at all polling station locations on Oct 18 and 25 to help eligible voters check their names in the draft electoral roll and submit claims or objections before the Oct 30 deadline as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Voters whose names are missing from the roll can apply for inclusion using Form 6, along with the prescribed declaration and documents. Form 6 is for the inclusion of new voters in the electoral roll. The voters can use Form 7 to raise objections regarding a proposed inclusion or they can seek the deletion of a name from the roll. Form 8 is meant for shifting residence, correction of entries, replacement of the Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and marking persons with disabilities. The SIR is being carried out across all 70 Delhi Assembly constituencies. People facing difficulties related to electoral rolls or requiring assistance with Form 6 can call the 1950 helpline or approach helpdesks at the offices of DMs. The Oct 30 deadline is an important milestone in the ongoing revision exercise, as voters must verify their particulars in the draft electoral roll and submit applications or objections before Oct 30. The SIR began in June this year and the final roll is scheduled to be published on Dec 4. Around 47.6 lakh names have been deleted from the draft SIR rolls. Out of over 97 lakh voters whose names exist in the draft roll, 33 lakh have been issued SIR notices. Out of 33 lakh issued notices, over 60% have been verified so far.
