4 held for hacking youth to death in Madurai
Madurai: Four people, including a juvenile, have been apprehended in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old man whose motorcycle was rammed by a car before he was hacked to death near Silaiman in Madurai district on Tuesday night. His friend Dinesh , 20, who was travelling with him, sustained serious injuries in the attack.
Police said the two were riding through Sathya Nagar around 11pm when a gang began following them in a car. The deceased was identified as Santhosh Kumar of Virathanur. The attackers allegedly chased the motorcycle and deliberately rammed it, throwing both riders onto the road.
A murder case was registered and an investigation launched to identify those involved. Silaiman police recovered the body and sent it for postmortem examination. However, the precise circumstances connecting the two cases have not been established. Further investigation is under way to establish the sequence of events leading to the killing.
Preliminary inquiries indicated that the killing could have been in retaliation to an attempted murder in Virathanur about six months earlier.
