Mayor Himgauri Aher announced the proposal on Friday

Highlighting water management as a key area of focus, Aher said the emerging global water crisis underscored the need for long-term, sustainable planning. Nashik could benefit significantly from international experience in water conservation and resource management, according to her. The mayor said rejuvenation and cleaning of Godavari river, regarded as Nashik’s lifeline, remained one of the civic body’s top priorities. We want to study such best practices and explore their adoption in Nashik,” Aher said. She said NMC planned to focus on curbing river pollution, improving wastewater treatment infrastructure and promoting the reuse of treated water.

“During the Geneva conference, we gathered information about river rejuvenation and water recycling technologies being used in different countries.

Mayor Himgauri Aher announced the proposal on Friday after returning from Geneva, Switzerland, where she attended the UN Forum of Mayors conference on Oct 12 and 13. The civic body is already implementing several infrastructure and river-related projects as Nashik prepares to host the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
