Nagpur: Warning against the growing influence of what she termed “Dimagi Naxals”, Rashtra Sevika Samiti Pramukh Sanchalika (chief) V Shanta Kumari, popularly known as Shantakka, on Friday alleged that certain ideological groups were brainwashing Gen Z, provoking women and encouraging unconstitutional forms of protest. “Their objective is to destabilise India and undermine its cultural foundations,” she said.

Highlighting the courage of women in the armed forces, she recalled a woman Army major who led a military convoy towards Gangtok at 15,000 feet on three occasions, taking her daughter along despite the challenging conditions. Recalling the Kargil War , Prabhudesai narrated the sacrifice of 24-year-old Capt Haneef Uddin and the courage of his mother, Hema Aziz. His mortal remains were recovered after 40 days, Prabhudesai said.

When the then Army chief Gen Ved Prakash Malik informed Hema Aziz that heavy enemy firing prevented retrieval of her son’s body, she reportedly said, “Don’t risk another mother’s son to bring mine back. She also urged women to balance professional ambitions, family responsibilities and social leadership, citing interactions with women scientists at ISRO as examples of career achievement alongside family commitments. Anuradha Prabhudesai, founder of Lakshya Foundation, presided over the programme. Download the TOI App.

Highlighting the Samiti’s social work since 1936, Shantakka cited relief efforts during Covid-19 and rehabilitation initiatives for widows of farmers who died by suicide in Yavatmal. Because their influence was largely invisible, addressing the Samiti’s 90th Shastra Pujan and Vijayadashami Utsav at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Sindhu High School in Jaripatka, Shantakka said such forces were more dangerous.

They want to create instability in society, destroy our culture and exploit Gen Z for their own interests,” she said. Referring to protests at Jantar Mantar, Shantakka invoked Dr BR Ambedkar’s warning against unconstitutional methods of agitation, which he had described as the “grammar of anarchy”. Referring to ancient scholar Varahamihira’s Brihat Samhita, she said its chapter on women’s virtues demonstrated the respect accorded to them in Indian civilisation. Shantakka said problems like exploitation and atrocities against women needed to be addressed through constructive social change rather than by creating resentment. “Using these issues to poison minds and create dissatisfaction is not the solution,” she said. Outlining the Samiti’s priorities for the next decade as it approached its centenary, she called for nurturing a generation free from the influence of what she termed “Dimagi Naxalism” and committed to placing the nation above personal interests. We are reaching out to young women in colleges through programmes that connect with their aspirations and modern outlook,” she said.

“These people are spreading misconceptions and poisonous ideologies, misguiding our younger generation and deliberately fostering dissatisfaction among women. Their primary objective is to create instability in India,” she alleged. The Samiti chief also accused certain groups of selectively portraying Indian traditions as oppressive towards women. “Our aim is to develop a Gen Z that believes in Rashtra Sarvopari (Nation First) and contributes positively to society.

“We are witnessing such methods today.
