Pune: A 46-year-old resident of Nigdi Pradhikaran lost Rs 25 lakh to cybercrooks who promised high returns on investment in the stock market.

The complainant, currently unemployed, transferred money to different bank accounts between Sept 9 and Oct 8. The complainant transferred a total sum of Rs 25 lakh to multiple bank accounts by Oct 8.

An officer from the Nigdi police said that about a month ago, an unidentified woman who claimed to be from a trading platform shared some information on investing in the stock market and told him to register on her firm’s mobile application. “The woman started giving him stock tips, which she claimed would give him the best returns,” the officer said. When he couldn’t cash out his investment, the suspects said they would return his money in exchange for payment. “We have sought details of the transactions from the complainant’s bank,” the officer said.

Realising he’d been duped, the complainant approached the police.
