Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has called for the US to work with Chinese: The wider industry impact

Speaking to CNBC during a media briefing in London this week, Jensen Huang said cooperation was necessary to ensure AI develops safely. Huang, who has opposed calls for stricter AI regulation, said the US should increase dialogue with Chinese researchers and other countries. He also said the UK could help bring countries together for these discussions.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has called for the US to work with Chinese AI companies to monitor the risks posed by the rapidly advancing technology. His comments come as concerns grow over the potential dangers of advanced AI systems, with some researchers warning about risks to humanity.

Because of its research and technical expertise, jensen Huang also said the UK was well placed to bring countries together for discussions on AI safety. AI safety has become a growing concern as companies develop more powerful models. Researchers from AI companies including OpenAI and Anthropic have called for a slowdown in AI development and warned about the technology’s potential risks. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei have called for greater regulation. Huang, however, has emerged as a prominent voice against that approach, arguing that countries should engage with each other to address AI risks.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said the two countries could cooperate on AI despite their competition, according to a Chinese government readout. “The two sides can continue their dialogue on AI, exchange views on its risks and benefits, and jointly prevent the misuse and abuse of AI,” Xi said, according to the readout.
