Mumbai’s long-awaited East-West Vidyavihar bridge is set to be inaugurated mostly online on October 18, 2026, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The tentative time for the inauguration is 10am. The opening follows the completion of construction work on the bridge, which connects the eastern and western sides of Vidyavihar railway station.

A 100-metre section of the bridge passes over railway tracks, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The approach roads measure 220 metres on the eastern side and 330 metres on the western side. These sections form part of the overall 650-metre-long structure. Civic officials had earlier said the formal openings were awaiting the availability of senior state leaders, while the latest update sets October 18 as the tentative inauguration date for Vidyavihar.

BMC house leader Ganesh Khankar said a large theatre or theatre complex would be more fitting for the actor’s name. A delegation of Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders met Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde and submitted a letter seeking to name the bridge after actor Nana Patekar. The competing proposals have brought the bridge’s naming into focus ahead of its opening. The Vidyavihar bridge was among three major infrastructure links whose opening was awaited after construction was completed. The other two are the Sion bridge and the Goregaon connector from Goregaon.
