Agartala: A Pocso court in South Tripura’s Belonia Wednesday awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment to a college student for raping a six-year-old girl, his neighbour, in October last year.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him, failing to pay which he will have to serve two more months in prison. Based on the charge sheet filed by police, the court conducted a series of trials and heard the testimonies of 16 witnesses before pronouncing its verdict. Police in Tinsukia, Assam have arrested seven individuals, including four minors, for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl, who is now 23 weeks pregnant. A 20-year-old man was arrested in Trichy for allegedly raping a 17-year-old college girl he met on social media.
The girl, reported missing by her parents, was later found near Mayiladuthurai bus stand.
She told her that he had repeatedly abused her over the last few days. The convict allegedly lured the six-year-old and her sister, all of three, with chocolates and mobile games. He showed the girl objectionable videos on his phone in his room before raping her in front of her younger sister. On returning home, the girl narrated her ordeal to her mother. Following this, her mother lodged a complaint with Belonia women’s police station. After preliminary inquiry, the accused was arrested. He confessed to his crime. The assault occurred after the girl was lured to a secluded area while playing with friends. Threats from the accused families initially prevented reporting. He took her from Tiruvarur bus stand to a nearby village where the assault occurred.
An 11-year-old girl was tragically raped in a Palamu district village on Monday. A 22-year-old neighbor is the prime suspect and is currently evading authorities. The assault occurred in a nearby field, and the young victim is now receiving medical care at a government hospital.
