Agartala: A special Pocso court in Unakoti district Saturday handed out a 38-year-old man 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor in March.

On June 1, police filed a charge sheet against the accused under IPC Section 376(AB)/508 and Section 6 of the Pocso Act. The accused took advantage of the situation and raped the girl while he locked her brother, also a minor, in another room. The girl narrated her ordeal after the mother returned home at night, following which the mother lodged a police complaint the next day. Based on the evidence and examination of witnesses, Special Judge Amarendra Kumar Singh convicted the accused.
