The ceremony also marked the inaugural presentation of the Bhavna Swarup Trophy, instituted in memory of a former student who died 25 years ago. Bhavna Swarup studied at the school from 1997 to 2000, joining in Class 5 and continuing until Class 7. She had just entered Class 8 when she died, making the trophy’s focus on the junior years she spent at the school particularly significant.
Dehradun: Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun began its 69th founders’ day celebrations with a special assembly and award ceremony, recognising students for their achievements in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. The trophy, awarded to the best all-rounder in the junior school, was shared this year by two students, Deveshi Ahlawat and Dhanshree Bhoopal. The annual award aims to keep Bhavna’s memory alive within the Welham community while recognising students who embody the all-round excellence the trophy represents. The assembly was presided over by Welham Girls’ School principal Vibha Kapoor, with Sangeeta Kain, principal of Welham Boys’ School, attending as the chief guest. Members of the teaching staff and students were also present. Addressing the gathering on behalf of the family, Alok Swarup thanked the school for instituting the trophy in Bhavna’s memory. Kain followed with an address drawing on her own life experiences, encouraging students to forge their own paths. Kapoor concluded the assembly with words of wisdom and inspiration.
