The civic body’s health and food department inspected 148 food stalls across the city, of which 107 had valid food licences or registrations. Notices were issued to the remaining 41 vendors, and their registration procedures were completed on the spot. The department also collected 35 food samples and tested them on site. Of the 148 stalls inspected, 81 were in nine venues in the North West Zone, five in five venues in the East Zone and eight at one venue in the West Zone. On Oct 3, the AMC had announced a special inspection drive covering Garba venues, housing societies and party plots to check food licences, hygiene, food quality and storage practices. However, the first night’s findings saw the civic body opt for on-the-spot registration rather than sealing the 41 stalls.

The department said inspections would continue at other Garba venues over the coming days. As all samples met the prescribed safety standards, no punitive action was taken in this regard. The inspections covered popular garba venues, including Raas Leela Navratri, Maniyaro Garbo and Vibrant Navratri in Gota; Cultural Sheri Garba in Chandlodiya; Adyashakti Garba in Ghatlodiya; tourism department’s garba in Vastrapur; Karnavati’s Garba in Ramol; Kesariya Taal Garba in Vastral; and Khodaldham Garba in Nikol, among others. It had specifically urged organisers to allot stalls only to vendors with valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences or registrations, warning that unlicensed stalls would be sealed.
