Ahmedabad: A 22-year-old man has accused a woman known to him of uploading an intimate video of him and his girlfriend after allegedly obtaining the recording from his mobile phone without his knowledge. Amraiwadi police received his complaint on Saturday and initiated an investigation.
The man had screen-recorded a WhatsApp video call with his girlfriend on Oct 9, according to the complaint. On Oct 11, a woman he regarded as a sister visited his house and asked to borrow his phone to take photographs of a chaniya-choli set. She returned it around 5.30pm, saying there was insufficient storage space on her phone and that a friend had transferred the photographs from his device to her own phone. The complainant said he learnt about the video’s circulation on Oct 13, when his younger brother called to tell him that the private recording had gone viral.

She denied doing so and said that her friend who handled the phone had been alone briefly when she stepped out. The complainant said the circulation of the video had caused embarrassment and damaged the reputation of both him and his girlfriend. During the call, both were nude. The recording was saved on his mobile phone. He handed over the device to her. He questioned the woman about whether she had accessed the recording. She claimed she did not know whether the friend had copied the video. The man alleged that the woman had accessed the recording from his phone without his permission and circulated it through her mobile phone among his relatives and acquaintances. Those who allegedly received it included his paternal aunt, younger brother, and a friend’s sister. Download the TOI App.
