The contraband seized at Ahmedabad airport on Saturday, Oct 17
Ahmedabad: A man arriving from Ho Chi Minh City was apprehended with 2.1 kg of marijuana at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) on Saturday. “Investigation revealed that he had allegedly coordinated the travel arrangements of the accused passenger at the instance of persons based abroad and had come to the airport to receive him.
Officers associated with the probe said that a person who had come to the airport to receive the passenger was identified and also arrested. WhatsApp chats recovered during the investigation contained communications relating to the passenger’s travel arrangements and baggage,” said an officer. Officers from the customs department’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted the man based on passenger profiling.
The total gross weight of the recovered substance, including packaging, was approximately 2,117g.
Preliminary testing by a scientific officer, FSL Ahmedabad, indicated the presence of active constituents of marijuana (ganja) in all seven packets,” a customs department release said. “During examination of his baggage, officers recovered seven vacuum-sealed packets containing a green-coloured substance concealed in a black handbag.
