Ahmedabad : A three-storey house collapsed in Khadia amid rain on Sunday afternoon, killing a 45-year-old woman and injuring three others who were trapped under the debris.

The ground-plus-two-storey structure collapsed completely, trapping four people inside, fire department officials said. The collapse occurred at Laxminarayan ni Pol near Mayabhai ni Bari, behind Panchkuva Darwaza. The incident came amid rainfall in the city, though officials were yet to establish whether the rain contributed to the structural failure. A rescue operation was carried out to ensure no other person remained trapped beneath the debris. Further inquiry into the condition of the building and the circumstances leading to the collapse is underway.

She was rushed to LG Hospital, where doctors declared her dead, officials said. An emergency call about the house collapse was received from Khadia Char Rasta, according to the fire department’s control room. The deceased, identified as Sonal Rana, was the owner of the house and lived on the top floor. She was among those pulled out after fire and emergency services personnel cleared the debris. Fire and emergency teams from Shahpur and other stations were dispatched to the narrow lane near Panchkuva Darwaja. The house was reportedly in a dilapidated condition. The collapse took place while the occupants, including the owner and tenants, were inside the structure.
