Ahmedabad: Accelerating violence over parking of two-wheelers was once only an urban Gujarat disturbance, but now such fights are erupting in the state’s villages.
Because of personal rivalries, neighbourhood tensions, and the absence of clearly designated parking spaces, police officers said most disputes begin with verbal arguments but quickly escalate.
The student and his uncle were allegedly assaulted, with one of the victims sustaining a head injury that required stitches, according to the complaint. A group of men arrived at a farmer’s property and questioned why a scooter had been left on the road, according to the FIR. A resident asked his neighbour to move the bike from the road, according to the complaint.
A neighbour allegedly objected, leading to a heated exchange. Family members from both sides joined the argument, which soon turned violent. The ensuing confrontation allegedly resulted in assaults on family members, damage to livestock equipment, and vandalism of property. In another Mehsana case, an argument over a bike parked in a narrow village lane escalated into a fight that sent two brothers to hospital. The exchange allegedly developed into a quarrel involving multiple family members. The FIR stated that the two brothers sustained serious injuries after being attacked with both sharp and blunt objects. In Gandhinagar district, a woman alleged that a neighbour became aggressive after she requested that a bike not be parked next to the cot which her family used. A physical assault on her followed.
