Committee chairman Jainik Vakil said empanelled agencies are selected through a tender process and work at approved rates, whereas non-empanelled firms often charge significantly higher fees. Ahmedabad: Facing allegations of irregularities in the appointment of consultants for major civic projects, including bridges, the AMC’s road and building committee has barred officials from directly hiring non-empanelled agencies for design consultancy and third-party inspection work. Any exception will now require standing committee approval.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday after concerns that favoured consultants were being awarded high-value assignments without approvals from the standing committee or the road and building committee.
