Ahmedabad : An eight-month pregnant woman who was allegedly forced out of her home by her in-laws sought help from the Abhayam 181 women helpline. Following counselling by the helpline team, the dispute was resolved and the woman agreed to return and stay with her in-laws.

The counsellor said the conflict intensified over business-related issues. The woman subsequently agreed to stay with them for the time being, the counsellor said. The couple has a five-year-old child, and she was pregnant with their second child when her husband died. The woman alleged that her relationship with her in-laws deteriorated after his death and that she was subjected to ill-treatment. She also alleged that her father-in-law obtained her signature on documents and transferred ownership of a house, jointly held by her and her late husband, to his name without her knowledge. The deceased husband had been running a business with the woman’s brother, and disagreements over business decisions reportedly led to arguments between the in-laws and her brother. Following the dispute, the woman was allegedly asked to leave the family home. The Abhayam team counselled the family on the woman’s legal rights and the property rights of her children. The woman was also informed about the legal remedies available to her. Following the counselling sessions, the in-laws apologised and assured her of their support. Download the TOI App.
