Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court on Wednesday slammed journalist Ravi Nair and his advocates for not informing it about a bail application pending before a Gandhinagar sessions court while seeking an urgent hearing on a public holiday against the issuance of a non-bailable warrant.
Because he was granted bail by the sessions court on Sept 24, hC disposed of Nair’s petition.
Nair, who has been sentenced to a one-year jail term in a defamation case filed by Adani Enterprises , was remanded to judicial custody by the sessions court on Sept 17 after he remained absent during a hearing on his appeal against conviction.
This irked HC, which stated, “The conduct of the learned advocate for the petitioner gives an impression that the petitioner has attempted to adopt a ‘hide and seek’ approach and to pursue a ‘pick-and-choose’ method before this court.” As soon as he was sent to jail, his lawyers filed a bail application in the sessions court. They also rushed to HC and were given an urgent hearing. The lawyers did not inform HC about the pending bail application.
