Ahmedabad: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) police on Thursday registered a cheating case against four partners of a Chennai-based jewellery firm for allegedly failing to pay Rs 1.6 crore for gold and silver jewellery supplied by a Ahmedabad jeweller despite repeated demands and assurances. The complainant, a Navrangpura resident who runs a jewellery trading and jobwork business on Sarkhej Road, met two partners of the Chennai firm at a gems and jewellery exhibition in Mumbai in Aug 2025, according to the FIR. The Ahmedabad jeweller subsequently supplied 988.3g of gold and silver jewellery valued at Rs 1.3 crore through a logistics company. However, the agreed 15-day payment period lapsed without payment, the complainant alleged. The Ahmedabad firm later raised a Rs 26 lakh debit note towards the increase in gold prices, which was allegedly acknowledged by the Chennai firm.
The duo selected several designs displayed by the Ahmedabad jeweller. They later visited his premises in Sarkhej and allegedly placed an order, claiming to be reputed traders. They requested that the jewellery be invoiced in the name of their Chennai firm and sent by courier. The consignment was received by the Chennai firm, the FIR stated. The parties had agreed that payment would be made at the prevailing gold rate, with changes in the rate to be adjusted through a debit note. In April, two salesmen were sent to Chennai to recover the dues. One of the partners allegedly acknowledged receipt of the jewellery and assured them that payment would be made. Despite repeated visits and calls, dues remained unpaid. The complainant alleged that the four partners had conspired to obtain the jewellery without making payment.
The DCB registered a case against the four partners for cheating under BNS and launched an investigation.
