Ahmedabad: A 50-year-old trader from Kudasan has accused a visa consultant of cheating him and his relative out of Rs 97.5 lakh by promising Canadian PR visas for their children but allegedly providing closed work permits instead. The trader was looking to send his 26-year-old son to Canada when an acquaintance based in the US recommended a visa consultancy office in Kudasan, according to the complaint filed with Infocity police. So he and one of his relatives approached the consultant in March 2025 to send their children to Canada with PR-linked visas. He alleged that the consultant had collected Rs 97.5 lakh — Rs 52.5 lakh from him and Rs 45 lakh from his relative — but failed to secure PR and provided visas different from those promised.
Infocity police registered a complaint of cheating and breach of trust.
The complainant said the family later discovered that the two had been issued closed work permits valid for two years instead of the promised free work permits with PR.
