AMC team seize analogue barfi from a cold storage in Gomtipur
Last Wednesday, AMC’s health and food department seized around 41,500kg of a suspected mawa substitute, which AMC has called ‘analogue barfi’, from a cold storage facility in Gomtipur. The stock belonged to 15 big vendors, said an AMC official. The civic body sent samples from stock belonging to a few vendors to the public health laboratory to test the quality of the mawa.

On Wednesday, the department also seized 41,400kg of sweets belonging to Radhika Food Products in Gandhinagar.
10kg sealed packets of Rajwadi Sweet (Bajrangi) and Indian Dessert (Nilkanth), stored at the Gomtipur facility, lacked mandatory information such as batch or lot numbers, manufacturing dates and expiry dates, according to an official AMC statement. Further investigation traced the suspicious mawa to a manufacturing unit in Vallabhnagar in Udaipur, Rajasthan . AMC team alerted the food and drugs departments of Gujarat and Rajasthan to initiate further action.
