Kanpur police registered a named FIR against six people on Saturday after a Chakeri resident alleged that investors were defrauded of about Rs 300 crore

She told the businessman she had already paid him Rs 7 lakh and now needed Rs 3 lakh more. After the businessman transferred Rs 2 lakh, she allegedly demanded more money. He contacted the cybercrime helpline on July 19 and filed a formal complaint on Wednesday.

The businessman in his complaint with Sabarmati police said he connected with her on the site and started communicating through chats and video calls. In April, the woman said her photos a friend had clicked while she was changing clothes had reached the friend’s husband, who was now threatening to make them public. He was told to forget about the money given and the marriage.

She assured him of marriage after the issue was resolved. Now suspicious, the businessman refused. The woman then cut off all communication.
