However, the plant within this radius will get the nod only if the site plot area is 7,500 sq m or smaller. Under the policy aimed at reducing air pollution in the city, RMC plants can be approved within a kilometre of a building construction site. Ahmedabad: The amended policy on ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants was approved by AMC’s town planning committee on Wednesday.
For plots larger than 7,500 sq m, having the RMC on the site itself remains mandatory, according to the policy. At a standing committee meeting on May 22, 2025, it was decided to relocate RMC plants from residential areas to mitigate air pollution. On Sept 15, 2025, AMC issued a policy governing RMC plants within city limits, making approvals mandatory before setting up onsite or offsite plants.
Builders planning an onsite RMC plant must now inform AMC at the time of seeking development permission, and the plant must be shut down once the building receives its Building Use (BU) permission, according to the amended policy. The committee wanted the plants to be shifted within two months. Offsite (commercial) plants were prohibited in residential and commercial zones, with permissions restricted to industrial, general agricultural, prime agricultural and logistics zones. Onsite plants were strictly limited to the final plot of the construction site itself. The policy will now be sent to the standing committee and then to the state govt for approval.
Suggestions and objections to the draft policy were invited and the approval was granted on Wednesday.
