An illegal firecracker factory at Ramol area killed 10 in July this year
On Sept 30, 2026, the Central Zone estate department had started inspections of various seasonal stores along the road from Kalupur Darwaza to Kalupur Tower. During this operation, 30 firecracker shops were sealed for operating illegally. After a blast at a firecracker unit in Ramol on July 18 killed 10 people, a three-day joint inspection drive was held by AFES and AMC’s estate department to inspect fire safety measures and legal property statuses. Under this drive, 25 properties, including firecracker shops, were sealed. The estate department subsequently expanded its campaign, sealing a total of 60 firecracker shops across the city in phases. In Aug 2026, the standing committee had ordered the unsealing of all these firecracker shops upon securing written undertakings from the owners.

Shops in the area were inspected on orders from the AMC standing committee chairman after the issue was discussed at a recent meeting of the panel. Owners of the sealed shops have been asked to present proof of compliance, including Building Use (BU) permission. Notices were served to all shop operators, ordering them to submit documentation within three days regarding their shop’s authorised use — specifically proof of BU permission or details showing payment of impact fees. Previously, firecracker shops in the Kalupur area had been sealed and no action had been taken in other parts of the zone. Ahmedabad: Teams from AMC’s estate department (Central Zone) on Monday sealed seven firecracker shops near Delhi Darwaza.
