Ahmedabad: The education officer of Ahmedabad city west district has imposed a Rs 10,000 fine on Sharda Vidya Mandir School after CCTV footage related to a student’s injury was not made available during an inspection. Action has been taken against the Bhuyangdev school under the provisions of Right to Education Act and education department regulations. A student had allegedly sustained a serious injury to his hand after being struck by a sharp object on the school premises. The wound needed stitches. The student reportedly did not know how the injury occurred. The student’s parents approached the school to request CCTV footage to determine what happened. However, instead of providing the footage immediately, the school allegedly sought more time repeatedly. Eventually, the school informed the parents that CCTV footage from the time was not available. Thereafter, Ahmedabad city district education officer sent inspectors to conduct a surprise check of the school. The report stated that the school failed to produce the CCTV footage. The school principal and management have been directed to deposit the amount into the govt treasury through a challan within two days. They have also been instructed to submit proof that the school’s CCTV cameras are currently functional and that footage is being maintained.
