Ahmedabad : The Gujarat Primary Education Directorate has started the process of filling 620 vacant head teacher posts in govt primary schools across the state to strengthen their administrative and academic functioning. Of the total vacancies, 614 are under district education committees and six under municipal education committees. The directorate has instructed district primary education officers and administrative officers of municipal education committees to complete the promotion process by Oct 15. Under existing education department rules, appointments to the head teacher cadre are made through direct recruitment, promotion and a special competitive examination in a 1:1:2 ratio.
After publication of the provisional list, teachers will be given 30 days to raise objections or seek corrections before the final seniority list is issued. The requirement of passing the HTAT examination at least once was removed by the department in 2021. As part of the exercise, separate seniority lists will be prepared for teachers of primary classes (Class I to V) and upper primary classes (Class VI to VIII). Seniority will be determined based on the date a teacher first joined service in the respective district. To be eligible for promotion, teachers must have completed at least five years of continuous service as a primary teacher or vidya sahayak. They must also have cleared the CCC computer examination from a recognised institution and the prescribed Hindi and Gujarati language examinations. Download the TOI App.
