Ahmedabad : An architect’s rented house in Sola was burgled after thieves allegedly bent the iron grille of a first-floor bedroom window and made away with gold and silver jewellery along with a wristwatch worth Rs 1.7 lakh. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Rs 1.7 lakh. Investigators said the theft occurred sometime between 10am on Aug 28 and 7.45am on Aug 29.

Police said the thieves allegedly accessed an unlocked drawer of a wooden cupboard, whose key had been left in the lock, and stole valuables. The couple returned to Ahmedabad around noon and found that the intruders had gained entry through the bent window grille. The stolen items included gold earrings, a pendant, a mangalsutra, a bracelet and other jewellery, along with two silver anklets and a wristwatch. The accused also allegedly targeted a neighbouring house by attempting to bend the grille of a first-floor window, but were unable to steal anything. Download the TOI App.
The architect and his wife, who reside at Anushthan Bungalows behind a city hospital, had locked their home around 10.30am on Aug 28 and left for their native place, according to a complaint lodged on Saturday. Another nearby resident had also noticed signs of an attempted break-in at his house. The burglary came to light on Saturday morning when a neighbour informed the couple that the iron grille of one of their bedroom windows appeared to have been tampered with.
