A 45-year-old travel agent in Ahmedabad has reported being defrauded of $18,000 (approximately Rs 17 lakh). The incident occurred when a man, posing as a potential customer, lured the agent into a cash exchange arrangement. After receiving the money, the scammer fled with the foreign currency, leaving the agent at a loss.
On Sept 3, the victim allegedly received a call from an acquaintance who told him that a prospective customer would contact him regarding a trip to US and UK for his parents. He keeps US dollars for his daughter, who is studying medicine abroad. Later, the purported customer reportedly discussed hotel and taxi bookings for his parents.
