BENGALURU: A retired Indian Army veteran who served in the 1999 Kargil War allegedly attempted suicide after he was reportedly prevented from meeting Karnataka deputy chief minister G Parameshwara to plead for a land grant that has remained pending for more than 24 years. The incident allegedly occurred on August 29 when Reddy attempted to meet Parameshwara and seek his intervention in securing the land promised to him by the government. Frustrated over the prolonged delay and his inability to meet the deputy chief minister to raise the issue, Reddy allegedly attempted to take his own life, sources said. However, he was reportedly blocked by senior police officers from meeting the deputy chief minister. Reddy had been promised a land grant in his native Chintamani in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district in recognition of his service. However, the allotment allegedly never materialised, leaving the war veteran waiting for more than two decades. Download the TOI App.
Naik (Retd.) Shivananda Reddy, who was attached to the Indian Army’s Maratha Light Infantry and was injured during the Kargil War, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital, sources said.
