BENGALURU: A former IT professional in Bengaluru has switched from a corporate job to driving a Rapido auto after her father’s death, saying the move allows her to stay closer to her mother and gives her greater control over her time. Her story was shared online after digital content creator Tanvi spoke to her during an auto ride and posted their conversation on Instagram. With her mother at home, she found it difficult to balance the demands of her job with being available for her.

She said her family initially opposed the decision, but she chose a career that suited her circumstances better. The woman also said driving an auto is not a lesser profession and claimed that she now earns more than she did in her IT job. She said some people question her choice after learning that she had worked in IT. The woman, described as a single daughter, said her decision was driven by her circumstances rather than social expectations. Another called her journey “inspiring”, while others praised her decision to choose independence on her own terms.

She eventually decided to quit IT and take up auto driving with Rapido. Her previous career often comes as a surprise to passengers. One question she recalled hearing was: “You speak good English and still drive an auto? The interaction highlighted the assumptions some passengers make about the people working as auto drivers. Tanvi shared the conversation with a caption focusing on the woman’s decision to prioritise her family and make her own career choice. The video has since drawn supportive comments from social media users, with several praising her for choosing work that gives her flexibility while allowing her to remain available for her mother.
