Forum urges govt to reserve land for medical institutions: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Mangaluru: A memorandum was submitted to the Dakshina Kannada district administration on behalf of the Puttur Govt Medical College Action Committee, requesting the reservation of 120 acres of land identified at Sediyapu for establishing units of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), as well as future public health institutions.

The action committee, in association with like-minded organisations, has already launched a signature campaign urging the state govt to consider opening branches of Kidwai, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, and NIMHANS in Puttur.

“Establishing units of these institutions near the proposed govt medical college in Puttur would benefit the residents of Puttur and surrounding regions, enabling the development of a comprehensive public health and medical education campus,” the committee stated in a release. The memorandum highlighted that necessary land should be reserved for developing future healthcare, medical education, and research institutions. It further mentioned that patients with complex medical conditions from Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady and nearby regions require collaboration among specialists across multiple departments. Having these institutions on the same campus or nearby would facilitate timely expert consultations, integrated diagnostic testing, multidisciplinary treatment, and continuous care.
