Bengaluru: Karnataka high court has given go-ahead to Greater Bengaluru Authority to seal and take other punitive actions against paying guest (PG) facilities in Bengaluru which are operating in violation of rules.

Justice Suraj Govindaraj, who recently issued a series of guidelines for PG centres, gave this direction after the court was informed that many of them, including some of the petitioners, had failed to comply with the directive issued on Sept 10. Hearing has been adjourned to next Wednesday. In the interim order, the judge had directed the PG facilities to primarily address violations regarding security, CCTV camera installation, fire equipment, and quality food and water safety, among others. If no action is taken by officers, then they would be held personally liable for any incidents, he added. In its response, GBA submitted its legal cell is preparing notices to be issued to all the errant paying guest accommodations.

Justice Govindaraj had specified in the earlier order that all authorities — GBA, fire, health and food safety departments, and police — would be required to take necessary action in case of violations. Caveats would be filed before the jurisdictional civil court as well as the high court to prevent the possibility of ex-parte interim orders.
