In a letter to the MCC commissioner, Kamath stated that installing a road divider on the Car Street of the Mangaladevi Temple will obstruct the smooth movement of the centuries-old Brahmarathotsava (chariot festival). “The Brahmaratha of Mangaladevi is built from traditional wood, and its wheels alone are about 8ft wide, making the total width of the chariot approximately 18ft. During this chariot festival, a massive number of devotees, volunteers, and staff will be present, and the existing road is safe and suitable. “We have been demanding the city traffic police and the district administration to ensure that the new bus stand constructed through the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) at Mangaladevi needs to be made fully functional. We have urged the authorities to ensure that all buses to Mangaladevi should enter the bus stand.
