NHAI has begun construction of an underpass at Sadahalli Junction on Ballari Road, connecting Kempegowda International Airport. The project aims to eliminate the last traffic signal on the main carriageway, improving movement along the airport route.
The underpass at Sadahalli Junction will extend for 750 metres and feature six lanes. The project is being developed at a cost of Rs 35 crore, with completion expected by mid-2027. NHAI has said that cut-and-cover work for the service road near the Indian Air Force station in Yelahanka will begin after the Aero India show in February 2027. Phase I of the service road work near the IAF station, covering the initial 240-metre stretch between Gates 1 and 2, has been completed. Phase II of the service road work, covering the stretch between IAF Gates 2 and 3, is currently in progress, with completion targeted for December 2026. Meanwhile, work on the domestic-side service road between Gates 5 and 6 will begin after Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation hands over encumbrance-free land.
Traffic police have confirmed that no diversions have been imposed at Sadahalli Junction so far.
An officer said they had been informed that NHAI would execute the work in phases, taking the high volume of traffic at the junction into consideration. Besides airport-bound traffic, motorists travelling from Sadahalli and nearby localities towards Bengaluru city or Devanahalli will be able to use the overpass at the junction. The facility is part of the ongoing road infrastructure work along the Ballari Road corridor. The service road works near the IAF area are being carried out in phases. The phase also included associated utility and compound works, marking the completion of this section of the project.
