Around 9pm, residents of a flat on the 11th floor noticed a gas leak. The occupants immediately rushed out before it caught fire. The flames soon spread to neighbouring flats and the gas cylinder exploded triggering panic. Fire tenders from Tiruporur, Siruseri and Kovalam were rushed to the complex and firefighters battled the blaze before bringing it under control. Residents of the affected and neighbouring flats were evacuated. Fire and rescue personnel are assessing the extent of damage. Download the TOI App.
